In Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), herbal therapies are specific to your body and condition and are formula based, its very rare for a medication to be a single herb. The herbs are not simply added in a cumulative fashion, each ingredient in the formula is carefully balanced to accentuate its strengths and reduce side effects so as to create a synergistic curing effect.
This part needs extensive training and real clinical experience, self-medication is not encouraged, even if it seems simple to add a particular Chinese herb to you diet, it may not help, or worse it could impact other parts of your body. Formula prescriptions are based on accurate differential diagnosis by qualified TCM physicians, and may need to be modified during your course of herbs, as your condition may change and alter what needs to be helped.
Although the mechanisms of how certain herbal formulae work are not yet fully understood, Chinese herbs have proven to be very effective in treating infertility. One benefit is that they have less accompanying adverse effects than Western pharmaceutical drugs. Herbal prescriptions also work well as adjuvant therapy for conventional approaches too, most IVF clinics have onsite Acupuncturist helping patients during their cycle.
These and other Traditional Chinese practices all form part of TCM, each adding a little to the history and methodology of Acupuncture and Herbs and their ability to help with Fertility.
