Can Acupuncture and Moxibustion work for Female Infertility?

Chinese medicine views most diseases as a process of energy imbalance. Acupuncture is a therapy that applies fine needles on acupoints on the body's surface to achieve an activated energy flow (qi) in the meridians.

The therapy is safe and pain-free, in any given treatment we will insert between six to 20 needles and leave them for about 15 to 30 minutes depending on the condition we are treating. Most people feel a sense of deep relaxation; some may even feel refreshed and have prompt relief from symptoms after their treatment.

We employ the needling techniques on acupoints distributed along the meridians to harmonize the blood and qi (vital energy) movements and activate the organs' functioning.

With female infertility, acupuncture promotes a smooth menstruation and facilitates the conception process. We first undertake a full assessment and select certain acupoints to improve hormonal balance and increase energy flow. Fine needles are usually applied on the acupoints. Moxibustion therapy may accompany acupuncture too.

It is routine to select acupoints based on syndrome differentiation, the following are important points for some conditions:

TCM practitioners who specialise in Women's health will consider an appropriate therapeutic strategy which includes the Western medical diagnostic and test results, then design an effective course of treatment.

A qualified TCM practitioner who properly understands both Western and Chinese medicine is capable of integrating the advantages of these two medical practices. With a couple, a physician will investigate both partners and treat either or both as appropriate.

There is no exclusive TCM therapy for infertility, each program is customised for you and your conditions. Therapy adjustments during the course of treatment are required as your condition changes over time.

It is necessary to be patient, open minded and determined. A standard TCM course may take at least six months for intensive treatment. There are many available solutions for infertility and the TCM method is one option worth trying.
